The Toronto Blue Jays are on the road tonight to take on the Texas Rangers in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for an 8:05 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Blue Jays listed as a big favorite on the road to pick up the win.
Toronto is throwing David Price tonight. Since being acquired by the Tigers earlier at the trade deadline Price has won three of four starts and earned a no decision in the other game. An efficient pitcher that can go deep in games, the lefty has thrown at least seven innings in all four Toronto starts, he's struck out 33 hitters during that time as well.
Price, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, is arguably the best left hander in the league behind Clayton Kershaw. He hasn't pitched against the Rangers this season but current Texas players .277 against him in 148 plate appearances. Grizzled veterans Mike Napoli and Adrian Beltre have both homered off Price in their careers, Elvis Andrus has 10 hits in 23 at bats for a .435 average.
The Rangers will counter with Colby Lewis. He's been very solid all season with a 14-5 record, but his ERA is 4.29 for the campaign. Lewis has posted a 6-1 record in home games, which has certainly helped the Rangers hang around in the hunt for playoff potential. While Lewis has allowed opponents to have some success offensively (4.96 ERA and opponents hitting .257 there), he's been strong enough to pitch them to some victories.
Current Blue Jays are hitting .263 against Lewis in 114 at bats. Jose Bautista has homered twice, four other role players have a single home run against Lewis in their careers.
This should be a solid pitching matchup, but there could be some runs scored here. Price has been very solid all season, even back with Detroit, and with the lineup Toronto has, they've been piling up wins. Tonight they get their fifth straight.
