The Detroit Tigers host the Texas Rangers in the second game of their weekend series tonight in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:08 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the Tigers favored to pick up another win.
Detroit moved David Price, Joakim Soria and Yoenis Cespedes at the trade deadline, waving the white flag on their season. But a three-game winning streak, especially drilling the Cubs twice, as the Tigers feeling like they can make a move on a potential Wild Card spot. Currently Detroit sits 3.5 games back of the second spot with Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Texas and Baltimore all in front of them.
That makes the next three games against Texas obviously important. If Detroit is able to sweep, or even take three out of four from Texas this weekend they will have a whole new look on the season with 39 games left to play. The teams competing for the Wild Card in the American League have not been able to really distance themselves yet from the rest of the pack, making the last month or so of the season interesting.
Justin Verlander has looked very well in his last five starts, compiling 36 innings of work, allowing only seven earned runs while striking out 32. He's allowed only five walks as well during that time, but is only 1-2 in those starts as Detroit has combined to score only 10 runs.
Current Rangers are hitting .256 against Verlander in 199 at bats. Adrian Beltre and Shin-Soo Choo both have the most hits with 13, each has homered as well.
The Rangers will send Colby Lewis, a 13-game winner, to the mound tonight. He has an ERA of 4.49 this year but has collected seven wins away from home, opponents are hitting .262 against him over 78 innings.
Several Tigers have good numbers against Lewis, the team has a collective .347 average against him in 101 at bats. Victor Marintez has nine hits in 17 at bats, Alex Avila has two home runs while Ian Kinsler and J.D. Martinez have gone deep as well. Miguel Cabrera has six hits in 20 at bats.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
