The Kansas City Royals take on the Toronto Blue Jays today in Major League Baseball action.. The game is scheduled for a 1:07 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv as well as local in both markets. The Blue Jays made a couple of big splashes on the trade deadline front, picking up both David Price and Troy Tulowitzki. Price is expected to get the ball tomorrow for Toronto, giving R.A. Dickey the start today. Dickey has 10 defeats already this season but has a decent ERA of 4.27 for the year. Current Royals own a .294 average against him in 170 plate appearances. Omar Infante has not had a successful season, but he owns a .500 average against Dickey, belting two home runs in 17 hits during 34 at bats. Alex Rios, Salvador Perez and Ben Zobrist each have gone deep against Dickey as well.
Dickey does prefer pitching in Toronto, where his ERA is lower at just 3.53 for the season. He's made 11 starts there this season and has pitched to a 4-3 record while holding opponents to a .201 average over the course of 74 innings.
The Royals will send Edinson Volquez to the bump today. Volquez has 10 victories on the season compared to just five losses with a very respectable 3.21 ERA. Current Blue Jays have marginal success against him at best, sporting a .230 average in 74 plate appearances. Edwin Encarnacion has homered but that's his only hit in six at bats. Volquez does have better numbers at home than on the road, but his road numbers are still pretty good. His record of 4-3 has come over 10 starts with an ERA of 3.73 while opponents have hit .257 against him.
Toronto has gone 10 games over the .500 mark at home this season and they are favored with the total coming down. Look for the Jays to get another win in Canada today.
