Major League Baseball Friday Oakland A's vs San Francisco Giants Start Time Odds Free Pick

Major league baseball on Friday night and we will see the Oakland A's travel to AT&T Park to take on the San Francisco Giants in game 1 of their 3 game series. Free Pick to follow. First pitch is scheduled for a 10:15 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Betting Odds

Oakland                 +102
San Francisco        -122

Over/ Under: 7 U -120

Oakland comes in having won just 8 of their last 20 games, but they have played better of late, winning 5 of their last 8. The A's have the 2nd worst record in the AL and are 11 games behind the Angles in their division, but they haven't been terrible on the road, where they are 23-24 on the year.  The Giants are hot as they have won 7 of their last 8 games are are currently sitting just 3 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. Back in late May and early June the Giants had lost 9 straight at home, but have since won 9 of their last 13 here at AT&T Park.

The A's rank 9th in scoring (4.33 rpg), 10th in hitting (.256) and 17th in homers (80), while on the mound they are 6th in ERA (3.39) and 5th in WHIP (1.20). San Francisco ranks 10th in scoring (4.27 rpg), 3rd in hitting (.272) and 24th in homers (73), while on the mound they are 13th in ERA (3.79) and 16th in WHIP (1.26).

Getting the ball for the A's tonight will be Jesse Chavez, who is 5-9 with a 3.42 ERA as a starter this year, while on the road he has gone 2-5 with a 4.10 ERA in 10 games (8 starts). Jesse has faced the Giants 5 times in his career, but just once as a starter and he got the win in that game last year, allowing 0 ERs on just 4 hits in 6 innings of work.

Taking the hill for the Giants tonight will be Jake Peavy, who is just 1-4 with a 4.94 ERA in 5 starts this year, while at home he has gone 0-2 with a 4.22 ERA in 2 starts. Jake is 1-1 with a 2.53 ERA in 3 career starts vs the A's.

Pick: Luet's hit the Over in this game. Jake Peavy does not have good numbers this year and Oakland has averaged 4.19 RPG on the road this year, so they are more than capable of at least 3 runs in this game. The Giants offense is getting healthy and it has been on fire of late as they have averaged 6.8 rpg in their last 9 games and they should get their fair share of runs off of Jesse Chavez, who has a 4.10 ERA on the road, while behind him is a pen that has a 4.92 ERA on the road this year. Giants will get their runs in this one, while I also expect Oakland to put up a few as well. The Over is 6-1 in Jesse's last 7 starts, while the Over is 13-3-1 in the Giants last 17 vs a team with a losing record. I see at least 9 runs in this one.

Is SEC Football That Overrated?
It's a hot topic in college football these days--is the SEC as good as people make it out to be. Pregame's Pauly Howard thinks it is all hype, but Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik has stats and numbers backing up his claim that, even with all the hype, the Southeastern Conference is still overrated. Check out the hot debate and Fezzik's challenge to Pauly
