The St. Louis Cardinals are on the road again today in Major League Baseball action when they take on the Miami Marlins. The game is scheduled for a 7:10 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv. Currently the odds for the game have the Cardinals favored to pick up the win at home.
The Cardinals once again bring Major League Baseball's best record to the diamond tonight. The Redbirds have a league-leading 45 victories already this season, they've dominated everyone inside their own ballpark by going 26-7. They're also a couple of games over the .500 mark on the road as well, which is a great recipe for success in MLB.
Typical with Cardinal teams is the great pitching, this season is no different. St. Louis has allowed just 202 runs to opponents this season, by far the lowest amount of any team in the game. Tonight they take on a Miami team that has been out-scored by 20 runs this season, part of why they find themselves 11 games under the .500 mark at this point in the year. Miami's home record of 17-17 is just not good enough to contend in any division, especially one with the Washington Nationals.
St. Louis will send Carlos Martinez to the bump. He's 7-3 on the year with a 2.80 ERA. He's won three of his last four starts, allowing just four earned runs over that time. Dee Gordon has four hits in eight at bats against Martinez, only Miguel Rojas has two other at bats against him.
Miami will send Jose Urena to the mound. He's started five times for the Fish this season, posting a record of 1-3 during that time. The Marlins have won twice during his starts, but both of those came against the Rockies. In his last start Urena gave up just two earned runs in six innings of work, he's allowed just five earned runs additionally in his last three starts as well.
St. Louis lost last night, but has still won seven of 10. Miami continues to struggle.
