The St. Louis Cardinals are on the road, taking on the New York Mets for a matinee game in Major League Baseball action on Thursday. The game is scheduled for a 1:10 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on MLB.tv as well as both markets. St. Louis owns the best record in the Majors at 27-13, plus they've gone 12-8 on the road so far this year. The New York Mets have been a solid squad through their first 40 games or so, posting a record of five games over the .500 mark, including a 16-6 record in home games. The Cardinals will send Jaime Garcia to the mound to make his season debut. Garcia is coming off a shoulder problem and will look to give the Cardinals a nice boost to the rotation. It's been almost a year since Garcia took t the mound, his last appearance was a 5-1 loss on June 20, 2014 to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Current Mets own an average of .419 against Garcia in 31 at bats. John Mayberry Jr. owns six hits, including four doubles, in 13 plate appearances. David Wright has good numbers against him as well, but Wright is still expected to miss two weeks moving forward.
New York won the opening game of this series but has lost each of the last two. They'll give the ball to Jacob deGrom today. He's 4-4 with a 3.21 ERA in eight starts. Current Cardinals own a .400 average against him in 30 at bats.
The Mets' pitcher is good in home games, though. deGrom has a record of 4-1 with a 1.42 ERA in his five starts at Citi Field this season, posting 30 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings. If he gives the Mets another solid game today, they'll pick up enough hits against Garcia, who could be rusty, to earn the victory.
