Mr. Z Preakness Stakes Odds Prediction

Saturday May 16th and it's time for the second leg of the Triple Crown, which is known as the Preakness Stakes. The Preakness Stakes official start time is 6:24 pm ET and will take place at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore, Maryland. There are several Longshots in the event, including Mr. Z, who has been installed as 20/1 Odds to win the Preakness.

Mr. Z's Record: 1-4-4 in 13 Races. Trainer: D. Wayne Lukas. Jockey: Corey Nakatani. Sire: Malibu Moon. Dam: Stormy Bear. Best Beyer Speed: 91

Mr Z has drawn the 3rd slot in the gate. He is trained by D.Wayne Lukas, who has compiled 4726 wins in his career, including 6 this year. Lukas was inducted into the racing Hall of Fame in 1999 and he has won 4 Eclipse Awards for most outstanding trainer, with the last one coming in 1994. D. Wayne is a time Preakness Stake win, with last one coming in 2013 (Oxbow). He is also the leading money winner and the first to reach the $200 million plateau and has a record 14 overall winners of Triple Crown races.

Mr. Z will be ridden by Corey Nakatani, who has compiled 3772 wins in his career, including 217 this year. Despite all the Wins, Corey's best showing in a Triple Crown ace was back in 2011, in which he finished 2nd, while riding Nehro. This will be his 5th appearance in the Preakness Stakes and he has yet to place in the top 3 of the race.

Mr. Z started out with a win in his first race, but has failed to get a win in his next 12. Pretty much a 12 race losing streak. Not much momentum heading into this race. Lukas has won many big races in his career, but even in a small 8 horse race I don't give Mr Z. much of a shot at taking the Race, or even finishing in the top 3.

Movie The Preakness is Beatable and Bettable--Buy/Sell?
Teddy Covers and Steve Fezzik, professional bettors, discuss whether or not casual horse handicappers can win betting the Triple Crown races like the upcoming Preakness. Fezzik sees some value in betting the horse to horse individual match-ups, but doesn't think it is worth betting on the race as a whole. Teddy Covers takes some advice from Pregame's horse racing capper JR O'Donnell who pointed out that every time trainer Bob Baffret takes a Derby-winning horse to Preakness he wins, which is exactly what he is doing with his contender, the favorite American Pharoah.
