Keen Ice drew the 14th slot in the gate. The Trainer for Keen Ice is Dale Romans, who comes has compiled 1786 wins in his career, but has just 17 wins this year. Dale won the Most Outstanding Trainer award back in 2012, but has never won the Kentucky Derby. He dose have two 3rd place finishes though. In 2011 he won his first Triple Crown race when Shackleford captured The Preakness Stakes. 2012 was a banner year for the Romans stable with wins by Shackleford in the G-1 Met Mile and G-1 Clark Handicap and Little Mike's gallant victories in the G-1 Woodford Reserve, Arlington Million and Breeders' Cup Turf. He earned 11 million dollars in 2012 alone.
Riding Keen Ice will be Kent Desormeaux, who has 5656 career wins, including 3 this year. Kent has had good success in the Derby as he has won it 3 times, riding Real Quiet (1998), Fusaichi Pegasus (2000) and Big Brown (2008). Twice in his career has he won the first two legs of the Triple Crown, but has yet to win it. He was inducted into the hall of fame in 2004 and won the Most Outstanding Jockey Award (Eclipse Award) in 1989 and 1992. Other top horses include Paddy O'Prado, Summer Bird, Dullahan, and C. S. Silk.
This is not a very fast horse as his best Beyer speed is just 88. Overall there is not allot to like about this horse, which is a shame because the Trainer and Jockey are pretty elite, plus he comes from a solid bloodline. I do not see Keen Ice having a very good showing in the Kentucky Derby.
