The Washington Capitals and New York Islanders take to the ice again tonight in an NHL Playoffs Game 4 matchup. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the USA Network. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Islanders favored at home to pick up the critical third win in the series.
The New York Islanders have played well to this point in the series and now they have the Capitals in a tough spot. Going up 3-1 on Washington would certainly help make the Islanders and their fans feel a lot better about their post season potential. It also brings up the recent struggles in the post season from the Capitals, who haven't made it out of the second round of the playoffs since the 2005 season.
Alex Ovechkin is taking a lot of the heat for the two losses for Washington to this point. He poured in 53 goals to lead the league during the regular season, but he's been without a point in two of the Capitals post season games to date.
The Islanders scored three goals per game during the regular season, which ranked fourth-best in the league. Through three games against the Capitals the Islanders are averaging three goals as well, winning a game where they scored four and winning a 2-1 overtime battle as well.
Nicklas Backstrom has been the best offensive player for the Caps to this point. He's scored twice and has four points, but Backstrom is going to need some help if the Capitals can even the series tonight.
Josh Bailey has four points as well for the Islanders, assisting on three goals. Kyle Okposo, Brock Nelson and Ryan Strome all have two goals while leading goal-scorer John Tavares has just one tally so far. The Islanders have to be feeling great about where they are in the series and they have an upper hand playing in this one at home, but Washington finds a way to win tonight.
