The NHL First Round Playoffs continue tonight when the Anaheim Ducks host the Winnipeg Jets in the first game of their opening-round matchup. The game is scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on CNBC. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Ducks favored by a comfortable margin.
Anaheim finished with the top overall seed in the Western Conference, earning 109 points just like the St. Louis Blues. Anaheim takes on the Winnipeg Jets in this first round, the Jets finished with 99 points in their season.
Winnipeg found a way to get into the post season, playing well down the stretch. The playoff spot will be the first in Winnipeg since the 1996 season, though the franchise did make the playoffs as the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1996-97 season.
Anaheim was leg in scoring by Corey Perry, the sharp-shooting forward that piled up 33 goals on the year. Along with Ryan Getzlaf, Matt Beleskey and Ryan Kesler the Ducks have four 20-goal scorers on the season. Anaheim also has a very good goal tender in Frederik Andersen, the goalie with a 2.38 goals against average and 35 victories on the year.
The Ducks weren't the best offensive team in the world this season, scoring just 2.8 goals per game, Winnipeg was just behind them at 2.7 per contest. Both have solid penalty kills, Anaheim's power play is strangely poor and goals should be at a premium in this series. Tonight, Anaheim gets it done in their playoff opening contest.
