Friday MLB Betting Odds Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Free Pick

Friday night baseball and I will have a Free Pick in the game between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, which will be played at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for a 10:10 PM (Eastern) start time and the game will be televised locally.

Betting Odds

Boston            -119
New York       +109

Over/ Under: 7.5 O -115

The Yankees and Red Sox will renew their long standing rivalry tonight in game 1 of their three game series from the Bronx. These are two teams that generally don't like each other and that has made for some long games in the past. The Yankees have not started the year as they had hoped, losing 2 of 3 at home to Toronto, while the Red Sox are off a series in Philadelphia, in which they took 2 of three from the Phils.

A look at some tends for this game show us that Boston is 4-11 in their last 15 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15, 1-7 in their last 8 games as a favorite of -110 to -150 and 1-4 the last 5 games in this series, while the Yanks have gone 6-1 in their last 7 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15 and 8-2 in their last 10 games vs. a left-handed starter, but just 5-16 in their last 21 games as a home underdog. We also note that the Over is 6-2 the last 8 games in the series.

Getting the ball tonight for the Red Sox will be lefty Wade Miley, who went just 8-12 with a 4.34 ERA in 33 starts for the Diamondbacks last year. Wade has faced the Yankees once in his career and it was in this park. He allowed 3 ER's on 4 hits and 3 walks in 6.2 innings of work in that game, which the Yanks won 4-3.

Getting the ball for the Yankees will  right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, who had spent his entire career in the NL until this year. Last year for the Marlins, Nathan was just 6-14 with a 4.37 ERA in 33 starts. This will be Nathan's first ever meeting with the Boston Red Sox and he has gone 0-4 with a 3.78 ERA.

Pick:  Neither offense has faced these pitchers all that much and normally that leads to an under play, but I don't see it that way in this one. These teams are used to playing high scoring games and both offenses have some pop, especilly the Red Sox, who have the usual suspect and have now added Hanley Ramirez, who is off to a solid start this year. A-Rod hasn't looked bad in his return to the Yanks and is off his first homer of the year last night. Both Eovaldi and Miley did not pitch well last year in the National League and now they both make the jump to the AL, where they have to face the DH. I will call for at least 9 runs in this one.
