2015 Major League Baseball National League West Odds

Much like the National League East, the West has a clear-cut favorite to win the division. The 2015 Major League Baseball National League West have the Los Angeles Dodgers as the run away favorites to win the division this year.

The Dodgers might be the best team in baseball, easily making them the best team in the National League West. San Diego made a ton of additions this season and the San Francisco Giants are the reigning World Series champions, but there is something about this Dodgers team that seems special. Both the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks will be taking part in the Major League season, but it won’t be a good one for either of them.

Los Angeles Dodgers -250

The Dodgers have won at least 90 games two straight seasons and this year they should be headed there again. They have the biggest payroll in baseball by a mile and it better equate to wins. The additions of Howie Kendrick and Jimmy Rollins up the middle makes them a better defensive team, which will be big for them. The pitching is great as the combination of Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke might be the top 1-2 duo in baseball. The bullpen is better, the Dodgers are thinking more along the lines of defense and speed and this year they run away with the division again.

San Diego Padres +360

The Padres went out and got a completely new outfield during the off season, acquiring Matt Kemp, Justin Upton and Will Myers, making them a pretty solid team already. Will Middlebrooks and Derek Norris join the club as well and if they are able to be a cohesive unit they’ll be successful. The pitching needs to step up this year as Andrew Cashner and Ian Kennedy are efficient, while Tyson Ross might be the best young arm the rest of the country has yet to see.

San Francisco Giants +475

The World Series champs are being picked to finish third in this division, which is a bit striking at first. The losses of Michael Mores, Pablo Sandoval and Ryan Vogelsong could prove to be big, but adding Casey McGehee, a veteran third baseman, helps alleviate some of that. The Giants are just as good as they have been in recent seasons, a lineup that has another year of veteran leadership and a rotation that remains intact, led by Madison Bumgarner and Matt Cain. If Cain has any type of bounce back season, this could be a nice underdog bet.

Colorado Rockies +4500

The Rockies have some talent, but it’s going to be tough to win consistently at Coors Field (see: Mike Hampton). The Rockies will never have a legitimate shot without a dominant pitching staff and this year is no difference. Both Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki are stars and Nolan Arenado is a rising stud at third base, but there is just nothing there from a pitching standpoint. It’s going to be another long year in Colorado for Rockies fans.

Arizona Diamondbacks +5000

The Diamondbacks signed Yasmany Tomas, which is nice for them, and they have Paul Goldschmidt, which is also nice, but they are not a good team. Having gritty veterans on the roster and guys that can do the little things is nice, but without a legitimate ace or a solid bullpen, it has the makings of a long year. The outfield has some pop and speed, but it’s not enough in this division.
