NCAA Tournament Second Round Iowa Hawkeyes vs Davidson Wildcats Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

The Iowa Hawkeyes take on the Davidson Wildcats tonight in the NCAA Tournament Second Round. The game is scheduled for a 7:20 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on TNT. Currently the College Basketball Betting Odds for the game have the Hawkeyes favored by a slim margin to pick up the victory.

Davidson was awarded an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament after there were blown out by VCU in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Prior to that the Wildcats had piled up 10 straight victories, beating up on everyone in their path.

This Wildcat team can run, they shoot the ball well and average just under 80 points per game. And, when looking at offensive efficiency this season it’s worth noting the Wildcats are seventh-best nationally, averaging 118.5 points per 100 possessions this season. For frame of reference that’s just under Gonzaga and just above both Iowa State and Arizona. In other words, the Wildcats can find a way to score.

Davidson, though, has been awful defensively this year. They give up 1.031 points per possession to opponents this season, which ranks 180th in the country.

Iowa is a considerably more balanced team. They don’t score nearly as much at just 69 points per game, but defensively they are solid as well by allowing less than 62 per contest, which ranks 58th nationally.

The gap between offensive and defensive efficiency for Iowa is much smaller compared to Davidson, giving the Hawkeyes a chance to play their type of game tonight.

Aaron White was First Team All Big Ten this season and Jarrod Uthoff is the only other player averaging double digits for the Hawkeyes.

Davidson, comparatively, has four guys in double figures, led by Tyler Kalinoski and his 17 along with Jack Gibbs and his 16.3 points per game.

If this game is up and down the floor and fast-moving, it favors Davidson. If the game is played in the half-court set and Iowa plays defense, they win.

Free Pick: Iowa 68, Davidson 64
