The North Carolina Tar Heels travel to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets tonight in ACC College Basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNu. Currently the College Basketball Betting Odds for the game have the Tar Heels favored by a couple of buckets in this one.
North Carolina has won six of their 10 games away from home so far this season and tonight they need to pick up a win at Georgia Tech. The Tar Heels are in no doubt of missing the NCAA Tournament, but at this point in the season Roy Williams and his crew need to be more concerned with their overall seed. UNC owns a five-game winning streak over Georgia Tech and recently beat them by almost 30 points.
Georgia Tech is of the rare breed of schools that is allowing more points to opponents than they score per game. The Yellow Jackets are just 12-17 on the season and have lost 10 conference games this season when contests went to overtime or were decided by five points or less. North Carolina is just a 5.5-point favorite in this one, so the oddsmakers are tabbing this one as a closer contest, which is not good news for Georgia Tech.
UNC has Duke on deck, so that could play a role into their mindset for tonight. If the Tar Heels are looking ahead to that one, it is possible they look past the Jackets and get upset. Georgia Tech is just 1-6 against ranked teams this season. The only win against a ranked opponent this season came against Miami, one of the craziest results all season as the Canes were blown out at home.
Williams' team has posted a 19-2 record on the season when they score at least 70 points. The Heels put up 89 against Georgia Tech last time out, but the Yellow Jackets have been pretty solid on the defensive end at home this season, allowing just 60.2 points per game to opponents in their home games.
UNC's front line of Brice Johnson and Kennedy Meeks make the difference in this one.
