The Michigan Wolverines are on the road today in Big Ten College Basketball action when they take on the Maryland Terrapins. The game is scheduled for a noon start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the College Basketball Betting Odds for the game have the Terps listed as a road favorite to get the win.
Maryland is coming off a massive win earlier this week, knocking off Wisconsin. The Terps did just about everything right in that win over Wisconsin, which ended up being Maryland's fourth straight win overall to reach 23 wins so far. Today they take on a Michigan team that has been banged up all year, but it still fighting in the Big Ten.
Michigan point guard Derrick Walton Jr. has missed several games with a foot injury and he made the trip with his team. John Beilein didn't hint one way or the other on Walton's status for this game, ultimately saying it was still up in the air. Michigan could certainly have a much better chance with its point guard on the floor as they look to finish above the .500 mark in the Big Ten.
Beilein said Michigan would play in the NIT this season if they were invited, but the Wolverines will need to finish at least 2-1 in their final three regular season wins to end the year with a .500 mark in conference play. Beilien didn't think the Wolverines would take part in the other post season tournaments, making their final three games very important. Michigan was one of those potential teams that had some talent and could have made the tournament this season, but nothing has really gone right.
Maryland is playing at home, where the Terps have picked up 17 wins in 18 games, only losing to Virginia. The Terps need to avoid the upset in this one, especially coming off such a win against Wisconsin. Let-downs happen in college basketball and if Michigan were to shoot the basketball well, they could hang around in this one. The Wolverines, though, have struggled a lot on the road this year, winning just two of their eight games away from the Crisler Center.
In this one Maryland wins because of too much Melo Trimble and Dez Wells. Both played well against Wisconsin and will take advantage of a banged-up Michigan team in this one.
