The Minnesota Golden Gophers hit the road tonight in Big Ten College Basketball action when they take on the Penn State Nittany Lions. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. Currently the Betting Odds for the game have the Golden Gophers favored by a small amount in this one.
Minnesota and Penn State are both in the bottom half of the Big Ten, having struggled so far this season. Both are coming into tonight's game off a win, though. Minnesota just knocked off Illinois in a tough game at home, but still hasn't been able to get their feet under them in conference action, struggling to a 2-6 record to this point in the season.
Penn State hasn't been any better with only one win in the league. While they've played well in several conference games this season, but only have a beatdown win at Rutgers last week to show for it. They feature the league's top scorer in D.J. Newbill at 22 points per game, but other than that they don't have a player averaging double digits per game. While having a player like Newbill on the team is great, not having multiple offensive options have led to some tough losses.
Minnesota is probably better than their record indicates. In the Big Ten they've had losses of four points, two points in overtime, five points, two points and three points. Those five defeats have been the difference between being toward the top of the conference and where they are currently. If they can't win big games, playing on the road in conference at this point in the year is going to be tough.
This game seems hard to figure out, but expect points to be scored.
