The ninth-ranked Iowa State Cyclones welcome in the Kansas State Wildcats tonight in Big 12 College Basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the odds for the game have Iowa State favored to pick up the win by double digits.
Iowa State just picked up a big win last Saturday night with Kansas in town. The Cyclones have stumbled a couple of times this season, but are one of the best teams in the country with their run and gun style of basketball. So far this season the Cyclones have poured in an average of 80 points per game and they lead the country in assists per game at 18.6 while shooting 49 percent (14th best). Offensively Iowa State is fun to watch and they're effective. Tonight they're taking on a Kansas State team looking to slow the Cyclones down.
Kansas State scores just 65 points per game on average, despite being a pretty decent shooting team at better than 45 percent. Three Wildcats are double-digit scorers, led by Marcus Foster with 13.6 points per game. Both Thomas Gipson and Nino Williams are effective guys as well, but those three are the only real threats for Kansas State on the offensive end.
Iowa State is the exact opposite. The Cyclones have five guys in double figures and six guys averaging at least nine points per game. Georges Niang is a player of the year type candidate and the senior leads the team in points at just under 15 points a game. Naz Long (13), Bryce Dejean-Jones (12.9), Dustin Hogue (11.4) and Monte Morris (10.1) all score in double digits as well for the Cyclones, who love to run and somehow only turn the basketball over 12 times per game. That's really the strength of the Cyclones — rebound the ball, get out in transition and score points.
Kansas State is going to have problems slowing down Iowa State in this one. Look for the Cyclones to have an impressive game offensively.
