The Texas Longhorns are on the road tonight in Big 12 College Basketball action when they take on the TCU Horned Frogs. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on ESPNu. Currently the odds for the game have the Longhorns favored by a slim margin in this one.
The oddsmakers are predicting this to be a close contest between a couple of teams in Texas. The Longhorns just picked up a huge win at home over West Virginia on Saturday night, blowing out the Mountaineers by almost 30 points. Tonight they're taking on a TCU team that has looked pretty decent during the non-conference slate, but no so great during the Big 12 games.
So far this season TCU is just 1-3, but they've lost to three teams that are better than them — West Virginia, Kansas State and Baylor in overtime. The Horned Frogs just beat up on Texas Tech, a team that is 0-5 in the conference and just 10-8 overall on the season. Texas is a much better team, obviously, and they're going to bring the big men to tonight's game.
The Longhorns have a very solid front line with Myles Turner, Jonathan Holmes and Cameron Ridley. All three guys help contribute to a Texas team that is fourth-best in the country in rebounding. They should have a very solid advantage over the Horned Frogs in this one on the glass and that could be the difference in this one. TCU is not a very good rebounding team and if they give up second-chance points to Texas, the Longhorns will gladly accept and pick up a win here.
Rick Barnes and the Longhorns need this game. They've lost twice in the Big 12 to both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, but the next four games are very difficult for them. Losing on the road to TCU would certainly make things worse for Barnes and Texas with four straight games over Kansas, back-to-back road games at Iowa State and Baylor and taking on Oklahoma State on the horizon. Hard to believe a team like Texas is in a "must-win" situation at this point in the season against a team like TCU, but losing this game would be monumental to them spinning out of control.
Having Isaiah Taylor back on the floor helps. He's a guy that can lead Texas to big wins and look for him to have a solid contest tonight. He's going to be a major factor for Texas.
