NFL Football Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers Start Time, Betting Odds, Free Pick

The Detroit Lions travel to take on the Green Bay Packers today in NFL Football action as the winner takes the NFC North. The game is scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on FOX. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Packers as a comfortable favorite to get the job done.

Detroit hasn’t won at Lambeau Field since the 1991 season, in case you hadn’t heard yet. The Lions have obviously had their troubles playing at Green Bay, but Detroit players are saying the right things by believing this year can be different. Past history isn’t indicative of current games, but Green Bay simply is just another animal when playing at home. The Packers have picked up all seven games at home this season and a win here over the Lions would give them another home game in the second round of the playoffs.

Matt Stafford is going to have to play a phenomenal game for Detroit to have a chance. Stafford is quickly becoming one of the young guns in the NFL that can lead his team to a win and threw for better than 4,000 yards already this season. His completion percentage isn’t the best in the league and he has made some poor choices this season, but when he plays well Detroit is tough to beat. Throwing to Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate can’t hurt, either.

Green Bay has the best quarterback in football with Aaron Rodgers. He’s thrown for more than 4,150 yards on the year and has 36 touchdowns compared to just five interceptions. Green Bay has been impeccable in the turnover department this season, sitting at a league-best +15 for the year. They’ve only turned the football over 11 times this season and it’s helped them get to this point, with a division title on the line.

While Green Bay has the advantage on offense, Detroit has the better defense. The first matchup between these teams saw the Lions earn a 19-7 win. The Packers had just 223 yards of total offense in that one, with Rodgers throwing for only 162 yards while being sacked a couple of times. Detroit dominated the time of possession by nearly 17 minutes and ran the football well enough to win. The Lions aren’t the best running team overall, ranking just 27th, and the offense overall has struggled this year.

Defensively, though, Detroit is going to hang around in this one as they look to get pressure on Rodgers and force him into mistakes. The Lions allow just 16.8 points per game to opponents and have the second-ranked defense in the league.

But it won’t be enough here, as Rodgers leads his team to another win at home.
