The New York Jets take on the Miami Dolphins in NFL Football action on Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on CBS. Currently the odds for the game have the Dolphins favored by almost a touchdown in this one.
The Jets nearly knocked off the Dolphins earlier this season, but fell a field goal short. New York is more than likely looking for a new head coach after the season as Rex Ryan and the gang have once again failed to meet expectations. The Jets have just three wins on the year, at one point dropping eight straight between their first and second wins. There’s a lack of any solid quarterback play as Geno Smith and Michael Vick have underachieved.
The Jets have are one of the best teams in the league at running the football, but without a legitimate threat at the quarterback position, teams aren’t letting that earn the Jets wins. New York has averaged 145 yards on the ground per game this season, third best in the league. Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson provide a decent 1-2 punch at the running back position, but neither are as good as they once were. The Jets just have too many problems to be successful and it’s showing with only three wins. Even though the defense is solid at times, it can’t get them over the proverbial hump.
Miami is once again outside of a playoff spot, but head coach Joe Philbin is being retained. Honestly that’s probably the best option as Philbin is getting the Dolphins going in the right direction. The Fins can still finish with a 9-7 record, but tough losses have been the undoing for them making the playoffs.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been getting better for Miami, having thrown for 3,800 yards and 26 touchdowns. He’s also proven to be a dual-threat guy when needed for the Dolphins as well, but also has weapons on the outside in Mike Wallace and Jarvis Landry. Tannehill still isn’t an elite talent, but he’s getting better.
Miami’s defense isn’t so bad, either. They’re going to be the difference in this one, getting pressure up front on the Jets and keeping them from moving the football down the field. Look for Miami to cause problems for the Jets, but New York will probably play their best game for their coach, who is more than likely on the way out.
