The Western Michigan Broncos take on the Air Force Falcons today in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The game is scheduled for a 5:45 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the Betting Odds for the game have the Broncos favored by a close margin.
Western Michigan made a very good turnaround this season, piling up eight victories after going just 1-11 last year. Head coach P.J. Fleck is one of the best young coaches in America and his "Row The Boat" mentality has brought a new life to the campus in Kalamazoo.
Air Force will bring the ground attack, rushing for better than 272 yards per game this season. That number ranks eighth best in the country and they'll look to ground and pound tonight against the Broncos.
WMU has one of the best freshman in the country as Jarvion Franklin ran for 1,500 yards and 24 touchdowns. Franklin has stabilized the Broncos offense that averaged 35 points per game this season. They'll look to keep the football on the ground as well in this one, but the play of sophomore QB Zach Terrell has significantly improved from last year as well. Terrell has two great targets in Corey Davis, who caught 70 passes (12 TDs) for 1,200 yards while Daniel Braverman caught 79 passes for better than 900 yards.
Air Force QB Kale Pearson should be back and ready to go in this one. He's thrown for 14 touchdowns and 1,500 yards on the year and is also one of three Falcons on the season that has run for at least 400 yards and five touchdowns.
Western's defense could be the difference. The Broncos have been playing well on that side of the football and that will have a big impact in this close one.
