Thursday Night Football Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Blake Bortles Proves He's Ready to Be Week 1 Starter for Young Jaguars Offense

The Tennessee Titans travel to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars tonight on Thursday Night Football. The game is scheduled for an 8:25 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on NFL Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Jaguars favored by more than a field goal to pick up the win.

Jacksonville and Tennessee have both been awful this season. Both teams are just 2-12 on the season but Jacksonville has an edge in this one as they've won both of their games at home. Tennessee has struggled mightily on the road this year, going just 1-6 away from their own building with that win coming in the first week of the season, a surprising 26-10 win over Kansas City.

Losers of eight in a row overall, losing by an average of two touchdowns per game. Tennessee hasn't won since an Oct. 12 matchup over Jacksonville, 16-14. The Jaguars turned the football over twice despite Blake Bortles tossing for better than 300 yards. Jacksonville had a chance to win that game late, but they got a field goal blocked in the final minute to lose the contest on the road.

The Titans scored points in all four quarters, albeit just a field goal in three of them.

Charlie Whitehurst is going to have to play well for Tennessee to win. The Titans have gone through a couple of quarterbacks so far this season, not getting good play from either of them. Now they have to turn once again to Whitehurst, the journeyman who is 1-2 as a starter this season for the Titans. The lone win came over the Jaguars.

Jacksonville is very bad offensively, averaging just 15 points per game — the lowest mark in the league. Bortles has looked like a very promising rookie QB, but the Jaguars just aren't ready to compete on a weekly basis against teams taking advantage of their defense that is surrendering 27 points per game. Tennessee comes in averaging only 16.5 points per game themselves while allowing 28 points per game to their opponents.

This has the feelings of a game that will be super-low scoring, but with as bad as both defenses have been this season, do not be surprised if both teams find a way to move the football and score points in this one. Look for Jacksonville to pick up the win at home.

Free Pick: Jacksonville 23, Tennessee 20
