Pro Football Betting Odds Denver Broncos vs San Diego Chargers Free Pick

Sunday NFL and we will see the Denver Broncos take on the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. The game has a start time of 4:05 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBS. Current Vegas odds have the Broncos listed as 4.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 51.

Analysis:  The Denver Broncos come in leading the AFC West by 2 games over the San Diego Chargers with a 10-3 record on the year. Denver has been perfect at home, but on the road they are just 3-3. Denver is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games in December and  9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 vs. AFC West, but just 10-21 ATS in their last 31 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Broncos have been very good on offense this year, ranking 4th in total yards, 4th in passing, 17th in rushing and 5th in scoring (29.6 ppg). The defense has been solid this year for the Broncos, as they come in ranked 4th in yards allowed, 14th vs the pass, 2nd vs the run and 16th in points allowed (22.5 ppg).

Last week the Chargers leaped out to a 14-3 lead over the Patriots, but the Pats scored the last 20 points in the game to walk away with the 23-14 win. San Diego still is in charger of their own destiny and should they win out they will be in the playoffs. The Chargers are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game, but just 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-8 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. The Bolts have been a very average offensive squad this year, ranking 20th in total yards, 12th in passing, 28th in rushing and 15th in scoring (22.5 ppg). The defense for San Diego has been solid, as they come in ranked 9th in yards allowed, 8th vs the pass, 14th vs the run and 12th in points allowed (20.9 ppg).

Pick: Yes I will be going with the Under in this game. The way the Broncos have been playing of late I just can see how these teams put up 50 points in this game. Denver has turned to more of a ground and pound team, especially when they have grabbed a lead in a game. The just give the ball to CJ Anderson and let him do the rest. This new gameplan for the Broncos has helped protect the aging manning, plus it has helped keep the clock running and the scoring down. In the last 3 games the Broncos have thrown for just 198.7 ppg, while rushing for 182.7 ppg. They are clearly looking to run the ball more. For San Diego their offense has been hit by injuries this year, especially along the front line and I just can't see them getting a whole lot here vs a tough and ever improving Denver defense. We also note that it has been solid game plan for the Chargers under McCoy to take the air out of the ball as well. The Under is 7-1 in San Diego's last 8 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. I see that trend continue here in a game that should put no more than 44 points on the board.
