Monday night football and the Miami Dolphins will travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets. The game has a start time of 8:40 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN. Current Vegas odds have Miami listed as 7 point favorites, while the total is set at 41.5.
Analysis: The Miami Dolphins come in at 6-5 on the year and are in 3rd place in the AFC East, A Half game behind the Buffalo bills and 2.5 games behind The Patriots. The Dolphins are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 vs. AFC and 20-9 ATS in their last 29 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game, but just 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Monday games and 9-21-1 ATS in their last 31 meetings. The Dolphins have been a decent offensive squad, ranking 17th in total yards, 22nd in passing, 9th in rushing and 9th in scoring (25.9 ppg). The defense for the Fish has been very good as they come in ranked 5th in yards allowed, 4th vs the pass, 10th vs the run and 6th in points allowed (19.9 ppg).
The Jets are having a miserable year and it will probably cost Rex Ryan his job at the end of it. The Jets come in with a 2-9 record on the year, with both wins coming at home. The Jets are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game, but just 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. loss and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a SU loss of more than 14 points. The Jets have been a sad offensive squad this year, ranking 29th in total yards, 32nd in passing, 4th in rushing and 30th in scoring (16.1 ppg). The Defense for the Jets comes in ranked 7th in yards allowed, 12th vs the pass, 3rd vs the run and 28th in points allowed (27.5 ppg).
Pick: I must look at the Under here. This has been a low scoring series as the last 7 meetings have averaged just 31 ppg, with not 1 game in regulation putting up more than 40 points. The Jet offense has been horrible this year and is all about the run, which should keep the clock moving and the scoring down on their part, plus they will be going up against the weakest part of the Dolphin defense and that is their run defense. The Jets will have to run the ball because it will be hard for them to pass on the 4th ranked Dolphin pass defense. The Dolphins come in ranked 22nd in passing and 9th in rushing and while they do pass the ball 10 more times per game than they run it they still don't move the ball quickly when passing as they are 28th in the league in yards per attempt (6.2). They could be in allot of 3rd and longs, as their 9th rated run game will be facing the 3rd rated Jets run defense. Overall the Jets are 28th in yards per play on offense and Miami is 19th, while on defense the Jets are 7th in ypp allowed and Miami is 6th. Lets also note that the Under is 13-3 in Miami's last 16 vs the AFC East and 8-3 in the Jets last 11 in December. This one has low scoring game written all over it.
