College football week 14 and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will travel to Sanford Stadium to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on the SEC Network. Current Vegas odds have the Bulldogs listed as 12 point favorites, while the total is set at 64.5.
Analysis: The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have had a very nice year so far as they come into this game with a 9-2 mark overall and a 4-1 mark on the road. Georgia Tech Has also clinched the ACC's Coastal Division with a 6-2 record and will face Florida State in the ACC Title game next week. The Road team is 12-3-1 ATS the last 16 in the series, while the Yellow Jackets are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU win of more than 20 points, but also just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. The Jackets have been a strong offensive team, ranking 25th in total yards, 121st in passing 4th in rushing and 14th in scoring (37.8 ppg). The defense for this team has been rather average, ranking 62nd in total yards allowed, 58th vs the pass, 70th vs the run and 46th in points allowed (24.1 ppg).
The Georgia Bulldogs were expected to contend for a national title this year, but that just hasn't been the case as they come into this game with a 9-2 record overall and a 6-1 record at home. They still can win the SEC East if Missouri loses this week at home vs Arkansas. The Bulldogs are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 17-5 ATS in their last 22 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game, but just 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. Georgia has also been a strong offensive team this year, ranking 28th in total yards, 91st in passing, 13th in rushing and 7th in scoring (43.3 ppg). They have also been strong on the defensive side of the ball, ranking 13th in yards allowed, 7th vs the pass, 55th vs the run and 18th in points allowed (20.5 ppg).
Pick: I know that Georgia has been playing very well of late, but I just don't feel that they should be nearly a two TD favorite over a Georgia Tech team that has just 2 losses on the year, with neither being by more than 6 points. The Yellow Jackets are 9-2 on the year and 4-1 on the road and have the kind of offense that can both keep the Georgia offense on the sidelines and match Georgia point for point should they need to. The Bulldogs do average 43.3 ppg on the year, but Georgia Tech averages a solid 37.8 ppg and both teams have been solid with the Jackets allowing just 24.1 ppg, while Georgia has allowed just 20.5 ppg. These teams are pretty evenly matched on both sides of the ball, meaning this line is pretty much due to SEC bias. Another factor to look at is the fact that Georgia has been knocked out of the race for the SEC East with Missouri's win yesterday and that squarely should put the motivation more on the side of the Jackets. With the road team 12-3-1 ATS the last 16 in the series I will look for Tech to keep this one close.
