Saturday College Football Utah Utes vs Stanford Cardinal Free Pick

Saturday college football and we will see the Utah Utes take on the Stanford Cardinal at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California. The game has a start time of 6:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. Current Vegas odds have the Cardinal listed as 9 point favorites, while the total is set at 43.

Analysis:  The Utah Utes have had a nice year so far, but they do come in off a bad 51-27 home loss to the Oregon Ducks. That loss was their 2nd in a row and that now has them at 6-3 on the year overall and 3-3 in the Pac-12. The Utes are 7-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing more than 40 points in their previous game., but also 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. Utah is a very average offensive squad, ranking 85th in total yards, 99th in passing, 48th in rushing and 48th in scoring (32.7 ppg). The defense for Utah is also rather average, ranking 69th in yards allowed, 100th vs the pass, 45th vs the run and 48th in points allowed (24.6 ppg).

The Stanford Cardinal have not had the year they were expecting as they are just 5-4 overall, which includes a 3-3 mark in the Pac-12. The Cardinal has played well at home posting a 4-1 record, with their lone home loss coming to USC. The Cardinal are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game and 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game., but are also 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The Stanford offense is below average, ranking 75th in total yards, 53rd in passing, 97th in rushing and 95th in scoring (24.7 ppg). The defense has been very good this year, ranking 5th in yards allowed, 6th vs the pass, 11th vs the run and 4th in points allowed (16.1 ppg).

Pick: Looking Under all the way in this one. Neither offense is really explosive, while both defenses have been solid this year and that usually leads to a low scoring game. Stanford is 95th in the nation in scoring, while their defense checks in at number 4 in the nation in points allowed. The Cardinals have averaged 32 ppg at home, but have only given up 9 ppg I this field. The Utes have averaged 25 ppg on the road this year, but their offense really isn’t equipped to score enough on a defense this tough. The Ute defense has been very good this year, especially on the road where they have allowed just 20 ppg. The Under is 9-2-1 in the Utes last 12 games vs a team with a winning record, while the Under is 12-3 in Stanford’s last 15 games vs a team with a winning record and 10-2 in their last 12 games after losing a game by 20 or more. Mid 30’s at best in this one.
