College Football Free Pick UNLV Rebels vs BYU Cougars Betting Odds

Saturday college football and we will see the UNLV Rebels take on the BYU Cougars at Lavell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. The game has a start time of 7:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN U. Current Vegas odds have BYU listed as 26 point favorites, while the total is set at 62.

Analysis: The UNLV Rebels are in the midst of a tough year as they come in with a 2-8 record, including a 1-5 mark in the MWC. The Rebels have really struggled on the road going 0-5 and being outscored by 36.4 ppg in those games. The Rebels are  6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, but 15-43-4 ATS in their last 62 road games and 6-20 ATS in their last 26 games following a double-digit loss at home. UNLV is a very poor offensive team that ranks 88th in total yards, 45th in passing, 107th in rushing and 114th in scoring (20 ppg). The defense has been even worse for this team as they rank 122nd in yards allowed, 61st vs the pass, 126th vs the run and 115th in points allowed (37.2 ppg).

The BYU cougars have suffered some injuries this year, especially at the QB spot and they have struggled of late, winning just 1 of their last 5 games. In their last game they beat MTSU to snap a 4 game losing streak and get them to 5-4 on the year. The Cougars are 7-3-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record, but also are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a S.U. win and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a bye week. BYU is an average offensive team, ranking 46th in total yards, 46th in passing, 54th in rushing and 52nd in scoring (31.8 ppg). The BYU defense has been average as well, ranking 67th in yards allowed, 116th vs the pass, 13th vs the run and 71st in points allowed (27.2 ppg).

Pick: Boy can the Rebels stay in this one? Im not sure. The Cougars are already locked into their bowl game, but they still want to continue to win and look impressive in doing so. They have had some offensive injuries, but you don’t need a great offense to beat a Rebels team that has allowed 37.2 ppg. The Cougars defense has struggled at times this year, but did allow a good MTSU offense just 7 points last week and will now take on a pathetic UNLV offense that has averaged just 20 ppg overall and just 14.8 ppg on the road. This one should be a blowout.
