A big NFL Football battle on Sunday takes place between the Miami Dolphins and the Detroit Lions. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have the Lions favored by a field goal to get the win.
Detroit is one of the best teams in the league and no one is talking about them. The Lions have raced out to a 6-2 start on the year and really have only been beaten by the Carolina Panthers on the year. A 17-14 loss at home to the Buffalo Bills a couple of weeks ago saw the Lions play poorly on the offensive side of the football, not scoring points or finding a way to get it done.
The defense has done its part this year. Detroit ranks fifth best in the league against the pass and second best in the league against the run this year. They're allowing opponents just 290 yards per game.
Offensively, the Lions get Calvin Johnson back to the field this week. He missed a month with an ankle issue but said he is back to 100 percent and ready to get to work. He's undoubtedly Matt Stafford's favorite target, but Golden Tate certainly played well while Johnson was hurt. With all three ready to go the Lions should be very good offensively moving forward.
Miami drilled San Diego last week, 37-0 as Ryan Tannehill continues to have a good season. The Dolphins are garnering a lot of positive talk around the league having won three straight games and nearly beating Green Bay last month as well. Miami sports a good defense that is very good against the opposing passing attacks, ranking second best and allowing just 201 yards through the air in game this season. Detroit will soar over that number, though, as the Lions love running shotgun and pitching the ball all over the yard.
Playing on the road against a very good Lions team is going to be tough. Detroit has the better defense, can score points inside Ford Field and they're very tough to beat there as well. Miami is off to a good start, but they aren't as good as Detroit.
