College Football Purdue Boilermakers at Nebraska Cornhuskers Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Nebraska Football: Report Card Grades for Every New Starter

The Nebraska Cornhuskers welcome in the Purdue Boilermakers in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on ABC or ESPN depending on regional coverage. Currently the odds for the game have the Cornhuskers as a three touchdown favorite to win.

Purdue has certainly had their problems, winning only three games and being inconsistent. A second straight game on the road in conference won't help matters as they head to Lincoln, where the Cornhuskers haven't lost all season.

Nebraska loves to run the football, ranking seventh best in the country at just over 293 yards per game. Ameer Abdullah certainly has a lot to do with that number, averaging nearly seven yards per carry for Nebraska this season. Abdullah, a potential darkhorse Heisman candidate, has rushed for nearly 1,250 yards on the season with 17 touchdowns. He could be the best back in the country and if Nebraska keeps winning football games, he's going to garner a lot more attention.

Nebraska's only loss on the season came in East Lansing to Michigan State in a closer game than was expected. The Cornhuskers didn't go away in that contest and battled back to lose by just a single possession. Michigan State beat Purdue 45-31 just a few weeks back in a game where the Spartans didn't play well in the fourth quarter. Purdue tried to use at least some of that momentum the next week, but lost on the road to Minnesota in a game the Boilermakers might have thought they had won, up 38-29 late in the third quarter.

Austin Appleby has been decent for the Boilermakers at the quarterback position, but Purdue does turn it over too much to be able to overcome their mistakes. They have scored three straight games in the 30s offensively, but neither of the three teams had a defense as good as Nebraska.

The Boilers come in off a bye, Nebraska is playing for a third straight weekend overall. Purdue should be rested up and they've been scoring points, but Nebraska is going to be too much in this one.

Lincoln is certainly a tough place to play, but Purdue has covered seven of their last 10 games as an underdog on the road. The Boilers, if they can hang onto the football and sustain drives, could keep this one respectable.

Free Pick: Nebraska 38, Purdue 24
