The San Francisco Giants look to close out a championship tonight in Game 6 of the World Series against the Kansas City Royals. The game is scheduled for an 8:07 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have the Royals listed as a pretty solid favorite to win.
Current Odds
San Francisco +127
Kansas City -138
The Royals and Giants have put together a pretty good World Series to this point. San Francisco has the opportunity to clinch their third world title in five seasons tonight in Kansas City. This is the first time two teams with sub-90 win seasons have met in the World Series, but each team put the regular season behind them quickly and focused on the playoffs.
If the Giants are going to win tonight, they'll have to beat flame-throwing Yordano Ventura. The young hard throwing righty tossed 5 1/3 innings back in the second game of the series, but earned a no decision. Ventura surrendered eight hits to the Giants in that game, giving up two earned runs. Kansas City would score five runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning in that game, winding up winning 7-2.
The Royals scored four of those runs against Jake Peavy, the Giants starter. He'll get the ball again tonight for San Francisco and is given the chance to get his team to a world championship. Peavy got knocked around in his last start, which also took place in Kansas City.
These teams were tied 2-2 just a couple of days ago before San Francisco took the series lead. In the 41 previous World Series that have been tied 2-2, the team that picked up the win in Game 5 has won the World Series 27 time. Yet, teams trailing 3-2 in the series have gone on to win Games 6 and 7 in eight of the last 10 occurrences. That makes tonight's game even more interesting.
Look for Peavy and Ventura to continue throwing well tonight. The series has been relatively lower-scoring, making each inning that more important. Tonight we'll take the Royals at home to force a seventh game. Kansas City was pretty decent at Kauffman Stadium all year, and are 5-1 there this post season. The only loss came in Game 1 as the Giants got out to an early lead and won 7-1. Ventura needs to have a great game tonight for the Royals. There's a lot of pressure on Kansas City to win the series, but tonight forcing a seventh game should be the only thing that matters.
