A pair of struggling teams this season take to the field in NFL Football action Sunday when the Carolina Panthers host the Seattle Seahawks. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on CBS. Currently the odds for the game have the Seahawks favored to get the win on the road.
Seattle and Carolina are probably the two teams in the NFL this season that have underachieved the most. The Seahawks obviously won the Super Bowl last season, but both Seattle and Carolina were dominant in the NFC but each sit with 3-3 starts to this NFL season.
Pete Carroll's team is coming off consecutive losses for the first time in more than a year. The Seahawks are only 1-2 on the road this season, having losses to San Diego and St. Louis last week as their defeats. Carroll and the group will look to regroup and find a way to win over a feisty Carolina team that is hurting.
Defensively, Carolina has been atrocious as well. They rank toward the bottom in major categories and allow opponents an average of nearly 400 yards per game offensively. Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have been able to move the football and rank second best in the league in rushing yards per game at nearly 154. Having Marshawn Lynch in the backfield helps. Beast Mode had run at a clip of 4.3 yards per attempt this season, just half of what Wilson has gotten when he breaks the pocket and takes off. Wilson's 8.6 yards per rush attempt this season has also seen him run for three scores on the year. While Seattle isn't the best team at stretching the field vertically and putting up globs of passing yards, they are still very effective.
Cam Newton looks to be healthy again for Carolina, but it looks like he's doing it himself. The Panthers are dealing with a ton of injuries, but Newton can still get the football to rookie Kelvin Benjamin at receiver and tight end Greg Olsen, both being big targets with good hands. Carolina has built itself on running the football in recent years, but this year it just isn't happening for them.
The Seattle defense isn't playing as well as they did last season, but they are still very good. Look for the Seahawks to play well on both sides of the football in this one and get a road win over the Panthers.
