A battle in the Big Ten takes place Saturday when the Maryland Terrapins take on the Wisconsin Badgers in college football action. The game is scheduled for a noon start time and it will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. Currently the odds for the game have Wisconsin favored by double digits to get the win.
This will actually be a pretty solid matchup in the Big Ten. Maryland has walked into the conference and picked up a pair of victories over Indiana and Iowa. The Terps didn't play well at home against Ohio State, but bounced back last week by knocking off the Hawkeyes. The next four games won't be easy for the Terps, either. Back-to-back road tilts against Wisconsin and Penn State then lead into a home game against Michigan State before traveling to Ann Arbor the following week. That's a physical test the next month and Maryland might not be ready for it.
This is the first meeting between Wisconsin and Maryland, one where the Terps are going to have to break history. Wisconsin, dating back to 2009, has gone 8-0 straight up and against the number coming off a bye week. They've won those game by an average of 47-10 and will look to pound the rock against Maryland as well.
The Badgers rank second best in the country in rushing yards per game at 343. Melvin Gordon and Corey Clement have combined for better than 1,500 yards on the ground with 17 touchdowns this season. The duo will look to continue running the football against Maryland in this one. The Terps are just 102nd in the country against the run, allowing opponents to rack up 198.3 yards per game on the ground. Even worse, they're surrendering 240 yards on the ground in the last four games this season.
Wisconsin should have no problems piling up the yardage in this one and they're favored by double digits in Madison. Maryland is coming off a physical battle with Iowa last weekend and could be a little banged up heading into this one, which won't be a finesse game. Plus, the Wisconsin defense is a lot better than they've been given credit for — the Badgers are holding opponents to just under 18 points per game.
