Analysis: The Arizona Cardinals are the surprise of the NFL so far as they come in with a 4-1 record, while leading the tough NFC West. Last week they took out the Washington Redskins by a 30-20 count. The Cardinals are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games vs a team with a losing record, but they are also 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 games played in October. The Cardinals have been a weak offensive team this year as they ranked 28th in total offense, 22nd in passing, 30th in rushing and 19th in points scored, putting up 23.2 ppg. The defense has made up for the offensive deficiencies, as they come in ranked 10th in points allowed (21.2 ppg), despite the fact that they are 25th in yards allowed and 32nd vs the pass. The Cards are stout vs the run, allowing just 75.8 ypg, which is 3rd in the league.
The Oakland Raiders are once again one of the worst team in the league as they come in with an 0-5 record on the year, including an 0-3 record at home. They nearly got their first win of the year last week vs San Diego, but a late drive by River sealed their fate. The Raiders are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games at home and they are just 3-12-1 ATS in the last 16 games following an ATS loss. The Raiders are a very poor offensive team that ranks 31st in total yards, 21st in passing, 31st in rushing and 31st in scoring (15.8 ppg). The defense has not been that good either, ranking 21st in yards allowed, 10th vs the pass, 31st vs the run and 26th in points allowed (26.8 ppg).
Pick: Gonna look to the Raiders to steal one here. Derek Carr had a very good game last week and there seems to be renewed energy in the Raiders lockerroom these days. This is a tough sandwich game for the Cardinals as they just took on Washington last week and have a game with Philadelphia on deck. Can they really be up for the lowly raiders here. I don't think so. Raiders get their first win of the year today.
