The Ohio State Buckeyes welcome in the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in college football action on Saturday. Currently the College Football Odds for the game have Ohio State favored by almost three touchdowns in this one.
Strange as it may sound, this is a pretty important battle in the Big Ten this season. Rutgers already has piled up five wins on the season and the school's only loss came to Penn State, where they failed to hold down the fort late in a game they should have won. Either way, the Scarlet Knights rebounded and knocked off Michigan in their first Big Ten game. Rutgers is coming off a bye and has had time to gear up for this game in Columbus, but the Buckeyes are playing very good right now.
J.T. Barrett was supposed to be a step backwards for Ohio State after Heisman hopeful Braxton Miller went down with a season-ending injury. The Buckeyes, however, have found a way to get it done and are back in the Top 15 nationally and look very good on offense. Urban Meyer has the Bucks ready to go and this is Homecoming week for the scarlet and gray.
Ohio State and Rutgers have never met on the gridiron, making this the first contest between two proud programs.
Rutgers is going to have to find a way to slow down Ohio State. After a loss to Virginia Tech where nothing went their way, the Buckeyes rebounded well by reeling off three straight wins and averaging 56 points per game in those contests. For the season the Buckeyes rank fifth nationally at nearly 45 points per game, which could be a problem for the Scarlet Knights in this one, but they have played solid defense this season.
Gary Nova appears to still have a problem turning the football over, having thrown seven interceptions this year. Rutgers has been able to put up a lot of yards this season, but Ohio State will have the best defense they've seen all season.
With it being Homecoming and the Buckeyes playing well, this one could get ugly.
