The Clemson Tigers travel to take on the Boston College Eagles in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNu. Currently the odds for the game have Clemson favored by a touchdown in this one.
Clemson really had a good thing going with freshman quarterback DeShaun Watson, who had already thrown for nearly 1,200 yards and 12 scores this season. But a problem with his hand has sidelined the frosh for what could be at least a month. Luckily for the Tigers they have Boston College this week.
The Eagles are playing on Homecoming, but they've dropped three straight games to the Tigers by an average of 15 points per game. While Boston College runs the football better than nearly everyone in the country, they might not be able to stay one-dimensional in this game. Clemson has athletes on the defensive side of the football and will be looking to try and slow down an Eagle running attack that piles up better than 315 yards on the ground per game.
Boston College has looked good on defense as well, but their four wins have come against UMass, Maine, NC State and the head-scratcher over USC. They allow less than 20 points per game, but Clemson should be able to surpass that in this one.
Andre Williams is gone to the NFL, but Boston College will rely on a rushing attack that has seen Tyler Murphy average better than 8.0 yards per carry and scored eight times. Jon Hillman is also a feature back for the Eagles, having scored seven times.
Clemson QB Cole Stoudt should get the call in this one. The Tigers picked up a win last week over Louisville where he wasn't sharp, didn't look great but they still found a way to get the job done. That game was brutal with neither team earning more than 265 yards of total offense. The defense and special teams won the game for Clemson and they will be called upon once again in this one.
The lack of road games for the Tigers could play a role as this is a significantly lesser opponent than either Georgia or Florida State. The Tigers are 3-1 in the conference, however, and should be focused. Next week they take on Syracuse, so there shouldn't be a look-ahead here at all.
Clemson is a better team, has better athletes and should be able to slow down that Eagles ground game.
