The Temple Owls travel to take on the Houston Cougars in college football action on Friday night. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNu. Currently the odds for the game have Houston favored by more than a touchdown.
Temple had one of the worst teams in college football last season, going just 2-10 for the campaign. The Owls' only two wins on the season came over Army and Memphis, a couple of teams that combined to finish the season with a 6-18 record, each going 3-9.
But this year, Temple has found a way to turn it around, already winning four games for the season and having a very good defense that ranks inside the top five nationally in scoring, allowing opponents to score just over 14 points per game.
The lone loss for Temple was a 31-24 defeat to Navy at home. Last week the Owls were able to knock off Tulsa after a week off and now sit atop the American Conference with East Carolina with 2-0 records.
Houston has struggled this year with losses to UTSA, BYU and UCF. The Cougars are just 1-1 in conference play this season and do have a favorable schedule moving forward. They should have beaten UCF a couple of weeks back but Greg Ward fumbled out the back of the end zone with 24 seconds left in the game. There might have been a bit of a focus problem last week as well, with the Cougars barely beating Memphis. The Tigers turned it over five times while the Cougars gave it away three times.
Temple will take advantage if Houston turns it over tonight. The Owl defense has taken advantage of playing an easier schedule, so if Houston can move the football they should be able to pick up a win here.
