Analysis: The East Carolina Pirates are off to a 4-1 start to their year, which includes a road victory over Virginia Tech and a 70-41 victory over North Carolina. In their last game they were 40 point favorites over a bad SMU team, but won the game by just 21. The Pirates are 1-11 ATS as road favorites of more than 6 and 1-6 ATS as road favs off BB SU wins. The Pirates are led by Shane Carden, who just may be the best QB in the Nation. Shane comes in having thrown for 1879 yards with 15 TDs and just 3 INTs. Justin Hardy and Isaiah jones are his two favorite targets, with the pair combining for 932 yards and 9 TDs. Overall the Pirates are 4th in the nation in total offense, 4th in passing, 49th in rushing and 9th in scoring (43.6 ppg), while the defense ranks 49th in yards allowed, 91st vs the pass, 17th vs the run and 68th in points allowed (25.2 ppg).
The South Florida Bulls have not had a good start to their year as they come in at 2-3 with their two wins coming over Western Carolina and UConn. The Bulls are 3-1 ATS the last 4 in this series, but they are also 12-25-1 ATS in their last 38 games overall and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games off a bye week. QB Mike white has struggled this year, completing just 40% of his passes for 561 yards with 2 TDs and 3 INTs, while Marlon Mack had 275 yards rushing and 4 TDs in the opener vs Western Carolina, but has run for just 261 yards and 1 TD in his last 4 games. Overall the Bulls are ranked 121st in total offense, 117th in passing, 95th in rushing and 114th in Scoring (19.4 ppg), while the defense ranks 67th overall, 44th vs the pass, 81st vs the run and 87th in points allowed (29 ppg).
Pick: Gonna look at the over in this game. The Pirates offense has been nearly unstoppable this year and I don’t see that changing here vs the Bulls, who have allowed 29 ppg on the year. I know that USF has a weak offense, but so did SMU last week and they put up 24 points on this ECU defense. ECU games have averaged 68 ppg on the year and I see this one easily in the 60’s as well.
