Sunday NFL Carolina Panthers vs Baltimore Ravens Free Pick

Sunday NFL and we will see the Carolina Panthers take on the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. The game has a start time of 1:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBS. Current Vegas odds have the Ravens listed as 3 point favorites, while the total is set at 2.5.

Analysis:  The Carolina Panthers started off the year with a 2-0 record and it looked as if this team might surprise some people this year, and they still might, but last week they played like we thought they might with a 37-19 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. In that game they made a tone of mistakes on offense, while on defense they had many problems, especially vs the run as they allowed the Steelers 264 yards on the ground in the game. Can Newton has played well in the two games that he has played and he does have a 99.4 QBR in those two games, but still something seems off about him and that could hurt this team as the season goes on. Overall the Panthers rank 21st in the league in total offense (332 ypg) and 19th in scoring (21 ppg) while their defense has been solid, ranking 14th in yards allowed (347 ypg) and 10th in points allowed (19.3 ppg).

The Baltimore Ravens started off their year with a tough home loss to the Bengals, but since then they have beaten Pittsburgh by 20 points and they last week they beat the Browns on a last second field goal. In that game the Ravens had a nice showing on the ground, rumbling for 160 yards, but their pass defense was not that good as they allowed 290 yards passing to Brian Hoyer. Joe Flacco has not been spectacular for the Ravens this year as he has just 4 TDs and 2 INTs so far, while completing just 61.5% of his passes. Overall the Ravens offense has been solid this year, ranking 9th in total offense (374.3 ypg), 8th in rushing (137 ypg) and 17th in scoring (21.7 ppg). Defensively they have also been solid, allowing just 16.7 ppg (6th) and 352 ypg (16th).

Pick: I will be going with the Under in this one. The Panther offense is just not right this year as they come in averaging just 19.3 ppg on the year. They have no running game and Newton just doesn't look healthy yet. I also feel that missing training camp has hurt him build continuity with his receivers, who are not really all that good anyway. The Panther do know how to play defense though and while they did not show it last week, i see that defense coming up with a solid showing vs a Baltimore offense that has scored just 21.7 ppg so far. The Raven defense has really surprised this year as they have allowed just 16.7 ppg so far. I see this one as a 21-17 type game.
