The Green Bay Packers need a win and they'll look to get one when they take on the Chicago Bears in NFL football action Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on FOX. Currently the odds for the game have the Packers favored by the slimmest of margins in this one.
This should be a great rivalry contest between two teams that obviously have never liked each other. Both of these teams could obviously benefit from a win here, but nobody needs a win as much as Green Bay does this week. The Packers have stumbled out the gate to a 1-2 record and could be looking at a very big problem if they aren't able to knock off the Bears in this one today. The biggest issue for the Packers has been the ability to get anything done on the road — Green Bay has lost both games away from Lambeau Field this season, averaging just 11.5 points per game as the Seahawks and Lions both grounded the air attack and kept Green Bay from accomplishing anything.
Aaron Rodgers has played well in his career against the Bears. In fact, Green Bay has been very good against Chicago, claiming nine of the last 12 games overall, covering the number in nine games as well. Rodgers has a 21 to 8 touchdown to interception ratio against the Bears in his career and has averaged nearly 240 yards per game and almost 68 percent of his passes. He also had pretty solid numbers against Detroit in his career, but the Packers weren't able to get the job done last week.
Chicago could be a bit tired coming into this one, having played on Sunday night and Monday night in back to back weeks. Sure, they are professionals but playing two straight weeks in prime time and then having to play the opening 1 p.m. kickoff the next week has to be a bit of a pain. If the Bears can play defense well against Green Bay it might be able to lessen the potential sluggishness coming in this game. Green Bay, which has been very good offensively in recent years, is struggling mightily this season. The Pack rank 22nd best in passing and 27th best in rushing in the NFL.
This week, Rodgers will get back to moving Green Bay down the field and looking good. The Packers defense will play better than they have in the opening three games and should be able to get after Jay Cutler as the Bears are a bit banged up on the offensive line. That has to be an advantage for Julius Peppers and Clay Mathews. Green Bay has been very pedestrian dating back to last year and haven't covered a spread yet in their three games. Chicago, on the other hand, is just 1-9-1 against the number at Soldier Field their last 11 games. Look for Rogers to have a big game.
