College football week 5 and the Stanford Cardinal will travel to Husky Stadium in Seattle, Washington to take on the Washington Huskies. The game has a start time of 4:15 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on FOX. Current Vegas odds have the Cardinal listed as 7 point favorites, while the total is set at 47.5.
Analysis: What a four year run it has been for the Stanford Cardinal, as they have gone 46-8 over that span, while going to 4 straight BCS bowls and have captured 2 straight Pac-12 Titles in a row. The recent success has really helped in recruiting, as the Cardinal, brings back just 12 starters this year, but will still be a dangerous team in the Pac-12. Stanford has some work to do if they hope for a 3rd straight Pac-12 title after they lost a home game to USC two weeks ago. The Cardinal did bounce back with a solid 35-0 win over Army two weeks ago. In the game the Cardinal outgained Army by 208 yards and held them to just 9 yards passing. Kevin Hogan has had a nice start to the year as he has hit 73% of his passes for 705 yards with 7 TDs and 1 INT. Overall the offense ranks 69th in yards allowed (429.7 ypg) and 76th in scoring (30 ppg), while the defense has been outstanding, ranking first in the nation in total defense (204.3 ypg), first vs the pass (66 ypg) and first in points allowed (4.3 ypg).
The Washington Huskies are off a nice 9-4 season, which snapped a string of three 7-6 seasons in a row. Now Steve Sarkisian has departed and in steps Chris Petersen, who had a great run at Boise State. Chris has with 14 starters back and overall this team should be just as good as last year. The Huskies started out the year with lackluster wins over Hawaii and Western Washington, but have come back with blowout wins over Illinois and Georgia Southern. Cyler Miles has been solid in his 3 games as he has thrown for 525 yards with 5 TDs and no INTs, while also rushing for 114 yards and 3 more TDs. His absence in game 1 was a big reason why they struggled in their opener vs Hawaii. Washington comes in ranked 77th in the nation in total offense (418 ypg), 28th in rushing (239.2 ypg) and 27th in scoring (41.2), while on defense they are 83 rd in yards allowed (405.2 ypg) and 72 nd in points allowed (25.2 ypg).
Pick: Gonna go with the Huskies to get the big home win here, or at least cover the spread. The Huskies are starting to figure it out on both sides of the ball and are 12-1 SU in their last 13 home games. The Cardinal is tough but just don't have the explosive offense this year to put teams away. I see this one as a tight game thoughout and I may have a play on the total tomorrow.
