The Purdue Boilermakers welcome in the Iowa Hawkeyes in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a noon start time and it will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Hawkeyes favored by a comfortable margin in this one.
This is the Big Ten opener for both clubs in what should be a pretty entertaining game. Purdue dropped a couple of sandwich games against Central Michigan and Notre Dame around their season-opening win over Western Michigan and last week's victory over Southern Illinois. The Boilermakers have not been impressive at all this season and are probably going to be overmatched against an Iowa team that is looking for a big year.
The Hawkeyes were able to pick up a road win over Pitt last week, one of the solid wins for the Big Ten. Only a field goal loss to Iowa State separates the Hawkeyes from being unbeaten, but that was a rivalry game. The Hawkeyes turned it over twice and led in time of possession by seven minutes but were unable to win over the Cyclones. They followed that up with a come-from-behind win over the Panthers. Iowa played very well on both sides of the football in that one and are hoping to replicate that here on Saturday.
This will be the 92nd meeting between the schools with Iowa winning six of the last eight matchups. In this one the Hawkeyes are planning on getting a solid game from quarterback Jake Rudock. They haven't been able to win the turnover battle this season, sitting at -1 in the differential so far. Purdue has actually been worse at -2. Safe to say the team that wins the turnover battle will pick up their first conference win of the season.
Iowa is a double digit favorite, but they've gone 0-3 in that situation the last three occurrences. Look for Purdue to have an inspired performance but come up short.
