The Pittsburgh Panthers welcome in the Akron Zips in college football action Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on ESPN3. Currently the odds for the game have Pittsburgh favored by almost three touchdowns in this one.
The Pittsburgh Panthers are coming off a loss last week at home to Iowa. They led that game in the fourth quarter but weren't able to get the job done, falling to 3-1 on the season. They welcome in the Akron Zips, who are just 1-2 on their season.
Pittsburgh defensively has done pretty solid this season, holding opponents to just 17 points per game. Each of the last three have reached at least 20, however, but the Panthers have won two of those three games.
Both Akron and Pittsburgh are +1 in the turnover department this season and turnovers will once again be important for the Zips in this one. If they are able to force the Panthers into ending possessions by coughing up the football, they might have a chance to hang around in this one.
But Akron lost last week against Marshall, a solid team that threw the ball 38 times but also ran for 284 yards on the ground. Pittsburgh is a very good running team, averaging better than 300 yards so far this season with James Conner leading the way.
Pittsburgh should respond well in this one, coming off a disappointing loss last week.
