NFL Week 3 and we will see the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Sun Life Stadium in Miami, Florida to take on the Miami Dolphins. The game has a start time of 4:25 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBS. Current Vegas odds have the Dolphins listed as 3.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 42.5.
Analysis: The Kansas City Chiefs had a solid first year under Head Coach Andy Ried as they went 11-5 on the year, but a 2-5 stretch run may show that this team could take a step back this year. This year they have started out at 0-2, with a home loss to the Titans and a road loss to the Broncos last week. The Chiefs had a chance to tie the game late but came up just short. Last year the Chiefs offense was ranked 6th in scoring, at 26.9 ppg, while also ranking 21st in total yards (337.3 ypg), 24th in passing (208.8 ypg) and 10th in rushing (128.5 ypg). This year the numbers are not so good, as they rank 26 th in total offense (312.5 ypg) and 31 st in scoring (13 ppg). Defensively the Chiefs ranked 5th in points allowed (19.1 ppg), 24th in yards allowed (367.8 ypg), 25th vs the pass (247.6 ypg) and 22nd vs the run (120.2 ypg). This year their offense has been average at best so far as they have allowed 365 ypg and 25 ppg so far.
The Miami Dolphins went just 8-8 in 2013, but they were 8-6 with a shot at making the playoffs, but were crushed in their final two games by Buffalo and the Jets to fall short of making the playoffs for just the 2nd time since 2001. This year they started out strong with a 33-20 home win over the Patriots, but then last week the Bills took it too them in a 29-10 Victory. Last year the Dolphins ranked 26th in the league in scoring, at 19.8 ppg, while also ranking 27th in total yards (312.9 ypg), 20th in passing (222.9 ypg) and 26th in rushing (90.0 ypg). Ryan Tannehill should have another solid year and has two big weapons in Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline to throw to, while the running game adds Knowshon Moreno to go with Lamar Miller. Defensively, the Dolphins were halfway decent last year, ranking 8th in points allowed (20.9 ppg), 21st in yards allowed (359.4 ypg), 16th vs the pass (234.5 ypg) and 24th vs the run (124.9 ypg). This year Miami ranks 21st in total offense (325 ypg) and 20th in points allowed, while on defense they are 9th in yards allowed (315 ypg) and 21st in points allowed (24.5 ppg).
Pick: Gonna keep this one Brief. I feel the Dolphins are the right side in this one. They are a vastly improved team, while the Chiefs are heading the other way. I look for a TD+ win from Miami here.
