NFL Free Pick Houston Texans vs New York Giants

Sunday NFL and the Houston Texans will take on the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The game has a start time of 1:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBS. Current Vegas odds have the Giants listed as 1 point favorites, while the total is set at 41.5.

Analysis:  The Houston Texans suffered through a miserable 2013 as they lost their last 14 games of the year to finish at 2-14, but this year they have gotten off to a nice start with back to back wins over the Skins and Raiders. Last year the Texans ranked 31st in the league in scoring, at 17.3 ppg, while also ranking 11th in total yards (347.3 ypg), 15th in passing (238.3 ypg) and 20th in rushing (108.9 ypg). Ryan Fitzpatrick has provided stability at the QB slot Arian Foster is off to a very nice start with 241 yards rushing so far. Defensively, the Texans ranked 24th in points allowed (26.8 ppg) and 7th in yards allowed (317.6 ypg) and so far this year they have been showing that this defense is for real, as they 1st in the league in points allowed at 10 ppg.

The New York Giants started last year 0-9, but did finish 7-3 in their last 10 games to give them some momentum and hope for this year. The Giants went a perfect 5-0 in the preseason, but even then they seemed a little off. Well they are, as they come out 0-2 on the year and have really looked horrible in doing so. Last year the Giant offense was ranked 28th in scoring, at 18.4 ppg, while also ranking 28th in total yards (307.5 ypg), 19th in passing (224.3 ypg) and 29th in rushing (83.3 ypg). It was rather shocking that an Eli Manning led offense could be one of the worst in the league, but that’s exactly what happened last year. In the preseason this offense looked bad and so far after 2 games they have put up just 269 ypg and 14 ppg. That is just putrid. The defense has not been that good either, especially vs the pass, where they rank 20th (241.5 ypg), while also ranking 28th in points allowed (30 ppg).

Pick: Something keeps telling me "Take the Giants", so I will listen to that inner voice on this one. The Giant showed a couple of bright spots in their new offense last week in the first half and this has the feel of a game that they will put it all together. They really need this game to take the pressure off and while the Texans have shown that they are in bounce back mode I just see this as a tough spot for them, especially after playing in Oakland last week and now having to travel cross county for this one, plus playing a desperate 0-2 team doesn't help matters either. I look for the Giants to break through with their first win of the year today.
