The Oregon State Beavers welcome in the San Diego State Aztecs in college football action Saturday night. The game is scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on FOX Sports 1. Currently the odds for the game have the Beavers favored by double digits in this one.
Oregon State will look to move to 3-0 today when they host a San Diego State team looking to pull the upset. The Beavers are laying double digits against the Aztecs, but they'll have to play better than they did the opening two weeks. While they are 2-0 on the season Oregon State didn't play great against either Portland State or Hawaii.
Both of these teams are coming off a bye last week and should be rested up and ready to go. Mike Riley and the Beavers need a victory here to build some confidence moving forward. Last year after a season-opening stunning loss to Eastern Washington the Beavers opened the season with a 6-1 record. Then they stumbled, losing the next five games overall before beating Boise State in the Hawaii Bowl.
Tonight, the Beavers will try to avoid the upset by playing stout defense. They beat San Diego State in a high-scoring game last year and could pick up the same type of win again this season. Sean Mannion and the Beavers should be able to score points in this one.
San Diego State lost their last game, traveling to North Carolina and putting up a pretty solid fight against the No. 21 Tar Heels, but ultimately falling. Rocky Long and the boys have no problem going on the road and playing tough competition, but how will they look in this one? Oregon State is not going to run them over consistently and the Aztecs should be able to line up and play physically with the Beavers.
But Oregon State is the better team. They're playing at home, on national television, with a chance to improve to 3-0 on the season. Defensively San Diego State will look to be physical and cause the Beavers problems, but it won't work tonight.
