The Rutgers Scarlet Knights travel to take on the Navy Midshipmen in college football action on Saturday. The game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have Navy favored to get this victory over Rutgers.
Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds was looking like he might miss some of this game, but he's expected to start against Rutgers. The Naval Academy is going to need him. Reynolds is one of the better decision makers in the country from the quarterback position and he keeps Navy moving the football down the field.
The home team in this series is 7-1 dating back to 2001. They last played in 2011, where Rutgers found a way to pick up a 21-20 victory despite being down by double digits in the second half. This is the home opener for Navy officially, where they have won five straight games to open a season. All five of those games came against inferior opponents, however, coming from the FCS. Last year Navy was 4-1 against the number in home games and in this one they're laying almost a touchdown against Rutgers.
The Scarlet Knights are -2 in the turnover differential this season and squandered a game last week, hosting Penn State. Rutgers should have won that football game but didn't play well enough in the second half to get it done. That certainly had to be an emotional process and expecting them to come back and face a team like Navy won't be easy.
The Midshipmen lead the country in rushing yards per game at 403. Rutgers has faced some passing teams in both Washington State and Penn State so far this season, so this game will be an adjustment, but note that Howard was a big running team sandwiched in between those games for the Scarlet Knights.
Knowing what to do against Navy and executing are two different things. If Reynolds is a complete go for Navy the Midshipmen should have no problem picking up the win here over Rutgers.
