Pro Football Odds Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos Free Pick

NFL Week 2 and we will see the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Sports Authority Field In Denver, Colorado to take on the Denver Broncos. The game has a start time of 4:25 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBS. Current Vegas odds have the Broncos listed as 11.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 50.5.

Analysis: The Kansas City Chiefs had a solid first year under Head Coach Andy Ried as they went 11-5 on the year, but a 2-5 stretch run may show that this team could take a step back this yearLast year the Chiefs offense was ranked 6th in scoring, at 26.9 ppg, while also ranking 21st in total yards (337.3 ypg), 24th in passing (208.8 ypg) and 10th in rushing (128.5 ypg). Alex smith was brought in last year to run Andy Reid’s offense and he did as expected, as KC averaged nearly 27 ppg, while also cutting down on the mistakes. Defensively the Chiefs ranked 5th in points allowed (19.1 ppg), 24th in yards allowed (367.8 ypg), 25th vs the pass (247.6 ypg) and 22nd vs the run (120.2 ypg). The Chiefs got off to a 9-0 start last year, but really faced a very soft schedule in those 9 games. They went just 2-5 down the stretch when the schedule got tougher. This year they have already started off on the wrong foot as they took a 26-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans to open up the year.

The Denver Broncos has a big season as they went 13-3 and wound up in the Super Bowl. Then reality set in after they were demolished by the Seahawks. The Broncos lost some pieces from that team, but are still expected to have a big year. Last year the Bronco offense was amazing, leading the league in scoring, at 37.9 ppg, while also ranking 1st in total yards (457.3 ypg), 1st in passing (340.3 ypg) and 15th in rushing (117.1 ypg). This was the best offense the NFL had ever seen and while they will be good again, it will be hard for them to top last year’s numbers. For the first time in NFL history a team had 4 players (Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, Erick Decker and Wes Welker) with at least 10 TD catches on the year and gone is Eric Decker, while Wes Welker continues to serve a suspension. The Broncos did ok without him in their 31-24 opening win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Pick:  Going with the Broncos in this one. The Chiefs are not the same team they were last year and will most likely not make the playoffs this time around. Alex Smith and the rest of the Chiefs offense just don't have the weapons to stay with this powerful Broncos offense. Last week the Broncos took their foot off the gas and it almost cost them. They will not here and should wear down the Chiefs in the fourth quarter, which is were they will put the finishing touches on the cover here.
