Analysis: The Arkansas Razorbacks lost their opener to Auburn by 24 points, but bounced back will a solid 73-7 win over FCS foe Nicholls State last week. In the game the Razorbacks outgained the Colonels 684 to 242 yards and outrushed them 495 to 34 yards. Brett Bielema is a power run guy so he had to be pleased with the rushing attack in this game. Lead the ground attack was Jonathan Williams, who had 143 yards and 1 TD on a mere 4 carries, while Alex Collins ran for 131 yards and 3 TDs on just 13 carries. The Razorbacks come in ranked 32nd in total offense (506 ypg), 12th in rushing (324 ypg) and 15th in scoring 47 ppg, while on the defensive side of the ball they rank 91st in yards allowed (418.5 ypg) and 74th in points allowed (26 ppg).
The Texas Tech Red Raiders come in off a lackluster 30-26 win over UTEP on the road, in a game they were 3 TD favorites in. It was the second lackluster game in a row for the Red Raiders as they barely beat FCS foe Central Arkansas 42-35 in their opener. The Red Raiders used a balanced attach vs the Miners, as they ran for 226 yards and threw for 278 yards in the contest. QB Davis Webb is off to a solid start for the Red Raiders as he has thrown for 730 yards, 7 TDs and just 2 INTs, while completing 67.5% of his passes so far. Overall the Red Raiders rank 11th in total offense (570 ypg), 9th in passing (365 ypg) and 53rd in ppg (36 ppg). On the defensive side of the ball they have struggled, especially vs the run where they have allowed 227.5 ypg on the ground, which 109th in the nation. The Red Raiders have allowed 30.5 ppg which is 96th in the nation.
Pick: This one has shootout written all over it. Both teams have explosive offenses that are each capable of notching 35+ points each time they hit the field. The Red Raiders scored just 30 points last week vs UTEP and you can bet they are not happy about that. This is an uptempo offense should have its way with and Arkansas defense that struggled mightily on the road vs another high powered attack in Auburn. The Razorbacks have allowed 30+ ppg the last 2 years and this defense could be just as bad as those. For the Red Raiders, they have defensive issues as well, after allowing 26 points to UTEP and 35 points to an FCS Team (Central Ark) to start the year. The Razorbacks offense struggled some vs Auburn, but their defense is much better than the one they will face in this game. Arkansas did just score 73 points on 684 yards vs Nicholls State in this last game. I look for both teams to just go at each other in this one with both teams putting up at least 34 points each. KEY TRENDS: The Over is 13-2-1 when Arkansas is on the road vs a team with a winning record, while the Over is 14-5 in Texas Tech’s last 19 games overall.
