NFL Football Oakland Raiders at New York Jets Start Time, Odds

2014 a Make-or-Break Season for Rex Ryan and the Jets

The Oakland Raiders open their NFL season on the road when they take on the New York Jets today. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on CBS. Currently the odds for the game have the Jets favored at home to get the win. You can keep track of the odds for this and every NFL game with our live lines feed here.

Obviously playing the early kick on the east coast isn't going to be good for Oakland. In their last dozen games on the east side of the country, in that early time slot, the Raiders are just 3-9 against the number.

The Raiders have decided to go with rookie quarterback Derek Carr over Matt Schaub. If the youngster is ready to go and has a future, it's time to find out now. The Raiders are not a playoff team right now (at least on paper) so establishing a young guy at that key position could work out well for them in the future.

But then again, it hasn't really worked out for them in the past.

This is an interesting game. The Jets are the type of defense that is going to disguise their blitzes on downs and also just flat out bring everyone they can on other downs. That could prove to be a big mess for Carr when the Raiders have the ball.

Geno Smith can be decent and the Jets are trying to get him some weapons, namely their new WR in Eric Decker. Was he the product of getting to catch footballs from Peyton Manning all the time, or can Decker help elevate the Jets? The same goes for new running back Chris Johnson, who when healthy has the opportunity to be one of the best in the league.

Oakland is starting new guys at tough positions, which won't help them. They've got three new guys up front o the offensive line and six new starters overall on defense. That's not going to bode well for them in this game.

Rex Ryan's defense will be causing problems for the rookie QB in Oakland and as always, there's nothing wrong going the other way when a west coast team is playing the early kickoff.
