NFL preseason week 3 and we get a matchup between the Houston Texans and the Denver Broncos at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The game has a start time of 8.00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBS. Current Vegas odds have the Colts listed as 2 point favorites, while the total is set at 47.5.
Analysis: The Houston Texans have had 1 bad preseason game and one good preseason game go far. In their opener they were embarrassed by the Arizona Cardinals 32-0, but last week they bounced back with a very good 32-7 win over the Atlanta Falcons. In that game the Texans played solid on both sides of the ball in tame, as they put up 323 yards of total offense, while allowing the Falcons just 248 yards of offense. The Texans scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams for the first time ever in a preseason game. After struggling in game 1, Ryan Fitzpatrick had a nice game, hitting 9 of 12 passes for 87 yards and 1 TD. He should see more time in this one. Jonathan Grimes led Houston's rushers with 42 yards off nine carries.
The Broncos are 2-0 in the preseason, with wins over the Seahawks and the Niners on their resume so far. Last week it was a total destruction of a good Niners team as the Broncos won the game 34-0, while outgaining San Fran by a 357-230 count. Peyton Manning looked sharp in the game, hitting 12 of 14 passes for 102 yards and a TD in the games. The five-time MVP is now 22-of-27 for 180 yards in two preseason games. He is expected to see more time in this one. Backup Brock Osweiler also had a solid game, as he hit 10 of 13 passes for 105 yards and a TD, while Darius Thomas led the team in receiving with 37 yards on 5 catches and CJ Anderson led them in rushing with 29 yards.
Pick: I am looking at the Under in this game. The Broncos will score some points this year, but I feel that the Texans can slow them down enough to keep this game low scoring. The Texans will have to rely on their defense this year, because that offense just isn't going to scare anyone. I see some running by both teams here that will keep the clock moving. I look for this one to be played in the higher 30's at best.
